Novell 5.x Setup

The following instructions are to be used as guidelines for setting up Novell to work properly with our software.

Minimum Hardware Requirements

FILESERVER

PROCESSOR: Pentium
SPEED: 200 MHz or Faster
MEMORY: 64MB RAM
HARD DRIVE: 2GB SCSI or Larger
CD ROM: 16X or Faster
Note:  Memory on fileserver may need to be increased depending on the size of the hard drive.

WORKSTATIONS

Windows 95/98
PROCESSOR: Pentium
SPEED: 200Mhz or Faster
MEMORY: 32MB RAM or more
HARD DRIVE: 1GB
CD ROM: 16X or Faster
MONITOR: 17" Color SVGA, 1024x768, .28 Pitch
RECOMMENDED:  Sound Card and Speakers

IMPORTANT: Each workstation must have a minimum of 520K base memory available (after VLM's, TSR's and menus are loaded) for MAGIC to work properly.

Trustee Assignments

To simplify loading new releases and third party software, the trustee rights need to be setup as follows:

Group Name     Trustee Directory Assignments
IRSAIMS        SYS:\      [ R   F ]
               SYS:APPS   [ RWCEMF ]
Make sure all users are added to group IRS-AIMS.

NOTE: You can either use the MAP ROOT command and map a drive letter to directory APPS or create a separate volume for application software. All of Insurance Rating Systems' software will be copied to the APPS directory or second volume. Our software must run from a root directory.

System Login Script

The following must be set in the System Login script for our software to work properly:

map ins s1:=sys:public
map ins s2:=sys:
map root g:=sys:apps

If you create a second volume, substitute the correct map command for MAP ROOT shown above. Do not load MAGIC into the SYS: root drive (F:\).

Printers

You may use PSERVER.NLM for printing services. IRS-AIMS' software will print locally or on the system printer through the print spooler.

You must create an ENDCAP.BAT file in the SYS:PUBLIC with the CAPTURE /ENDCAP command in it for our printer redirection to work properly. The ENDCAP command is hard-coded in our software.

For AIMS’ printer redirection to work properly, you will need to create a print form and printjobs. The command line utilities for PRINTCON and PRINTDEF are not included with Netware 5.0; however, the same functionality is available in NWAdmin32. I have included screen prints of the form and printjobs on the next two pages.

To create the form and printjobs, you will need to bring up the NWAdmin32 utility. From NWAdmin32 window, right-click on the root object and select Details. From the organization window, select Printer Forms (Non NDPS) and Print Job Configuration (Non NDPS) buttons to create the necessary form and print jobs.

1.  You must setup a DEFAULT form using the NWAdmin32 Printer Forms (Non-NDPS) button as shown below:

2.  You must setup two print job configurations DEFAULT and AIMSCON using the NWAdmin32 Printer Configuration (Non NDPS) button as shown below:

Default

Aimscon

3. You may create another printjob named 2NDPRTR. This will allow the users to access a third system printer through AIMS.

2ndprtr

NOTE: The print queues may be different depending on what you name them.

Workstation Drivers

Windows 95 and  98

You will need to use the Novell Netware Client 32 version 3.1 or later. You will also need to setup shortcuts for the Magic programs.

If you have any specific questions you can call 210-658-4691 and ask for technical support.
